Nina Schofield Reacts To Sydnie Christmas

Her song choices are not only amazing, but they seem to offer an autobiography. She began with Tomorrow, next was My Way, and her final song choice was Over the Rainbow. It tells the story of a person never giving up, always thinking of tomorrow, but refusing to follow lead and always wanting to do it her way, and finally dream of her life over the rainbow. Well, as the winner of BGT 2024, Sydnie Christmas, your tomorrow has arrived, you did it your way, and you should be over the rainbow!

I watch a lot of vocal coach reacts to different type of videos on the Internet and I absolutely love the way that you structure yours you don’t pause every 20 seconds and go into this 3-5 minute rambling session. It’s just refreshing to see somebody be able to pause it speak a little bit on it and then continue. Sorry, I actually had to pause the video and comment this before I went on lol. Love it you got a new subscriber

Excellent breakdown of her performance. Regarding her prior experience. She was part of a cast for a couple of plays in the past. 1 in London and 1 in Germany. She also was a cruise ship performer for Royal Caribbean. So she has experience, but has never performed on The West End according to her interviews. She was an understudy before Covid closed everything. Not exactly a household name (yet). I heard shades of Judy Garland there. She also is very funny, as you’ll see in her audition, singing Tomorrow.

Hello Nina, I’m new here, but really love your style of presentation. Like all who watched the final last saturday evening on UK ITV channel, I was blown away with Sydnie’s performance, so may I give a few words of information, from UTube searches. After winning golden buzzer, she had about 4 weeks before her performance in the 4th semi final, and won that one with “My Way”. During that period, BGT gave her the use of a good vocal coach to help her where necessary, and she actually mentioned this during the interview answer to a question, “what will you do with the £25000 prize money?”, her reply was that now she could afford weekly singing lessons with this coach, who had improved her voice more than her years of attendance at College, obviously some time ago, as she is now 28. Yes, she has had a small amount of musical theatre experience in London, but craves a leading lady part in one of the larger WestEnd London theatres. In the meantime, she has performed on Cruise Ships, and has a UTube channel, with a few videos, but nothing like as spectacular as recent BGT videos. So, with more good Coaching, her voice could get better, but hey, it is already fantasic. So, like many singers trying to earn a living doing what they love, she sings from the heart, and clearly has learnt how to present songs in her own way. X

At these two times (3:04 and 4:47), you stopped and listened again as Sydnie hit these glorious high notes. An aspect of that which truly struck me was that each time, she stopped the immediately preceding note, paused a moment, then came back in at exactly the right note. Not even the tiniest bit off, but perfectly on it. Maybe an oscilloscope could detect some imprecision, but I certainly couldn’t. Having performed in orchestra and choir, I know how difficult it is to come in on a note precisely. Even professionals can be a touch off. The degree of vocal control needed to be so precise is staggering to me. Simon was right when he said she had a god-given talent.

I think she is awesome and I think she very possibly will be one of the few winners of such shows who will actually get a real careerboost. And I think the fact of her personality which seems to indeed not be a big ego, a lot of warmth and willingness to joy will help a lot. She reminds me of Kelly Clarkson in this. A type of person people will want to work with not just because of their ability but because they will work together well ..their goal being the end product rather than their Ego. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for Sydnie..May all her dreams come through!

I have gone over the rainbow for Sydnie. I’m 77 and have lived in Manhattan for 55 years. I was an entertainment writer and magazine editor, a theater critic and columnist, a television personality and have seen hundreds of Broadway shows beginning in the 60’s when i was a teenager and would visit New York with my Nan every summer for a week. There were only a couple of times in all these years that I have been this excited over such an immense talent: when I saw Barbra Streisand (Who I already worshiped) in Funny GIrl on Broadway and the first time I saw and heard the divine Kelly O’Hara, which was in Light in the Piazza. That’s pretty lofty company. I have listened to these three performances too any times, and never get tired of them. I loved watching your excellent analysis and critique and will subscribe. I understand the difficulty and heartbreak in chasing this particular dream. It’s why I came to New York. But I didn’t have the patience and certainly not this level of talent (especially singing) . Luckily, found I had a much better aptitude for writing.and have had an exciting and fulfilling career. I will be following Sydnie’s career with great enthusiasm. She is a shooting star.

Like many, many, many others, I’ve watched all three of Ms. Christmas’s three performances so many, many times, I say to myself, enough is enough, I’ve got to move on to other things. Then a watch a new very appreciative reaction, then I’m back to watching her performances all over and over again. As I have said, in my other comments, not only can you ‘hear’ her sing, you can really ‘feel’ her sing. The planets have aligned and I’m so glad that I was able to watch Sydnie put on that glass-slipper, and it fits her exceptionally well.

All of Sydnie’s performances – for me, nonpareil – have utterly mesmerised me, and each time I watch and listen I am transfixed and transported. The girl has about her a certain something – an irresistible charm – that for me defies precise definition but is supremely and delightfully entrancing. Each time I watch and listen my senses quickly become overwhelmed, causing warm tears to brim my eyes and thrilling tingles to pass in waves along my body. I keep watching and listening – I am unable to stop myself. Should I seek help – some form of therapy? Or is this Heaven?
